Characteristics of the Ouachita River
For many first time visitors, the most difficult thing about the Ouachita River is learning how to say it correctly. The pronunciation - "Wash i taw" - bears little resemblance to the spelling.
The Ouachita is a fine stream ideally suited for family outings, especially those venturing out for their first trip in a canoe. The river has Class I rapids, with interesting shoals of gravel with pools for swimming and tubing.
The river is wide from the mouth of the Caddo River to Sparkman and can be floated much of the year. The best period is April to October.
Most importantly, some rivers in Arkansas experience low water levels during the months of July and August. But Two Rivers Canoe Rental is uniquely positioned on the Caddo, where water is not a problem since a power-generating dam releases water regularly as it makes it way from DeGray Lake.
So, during the late summer months we still have plenty of floatable water for you to enjoy!
